Reviving Timeless Beauty: The Story of Two Antique Chairs
What factors I consider before restoring your piece?
-
Frame of chair (type, size)
-
Fabric selection (Pendleton or other types of fabric)
-
Leather selection – includes hair on hide cowhides (choices are endless)
-
Completely stripped down or just touch up (depends on frame condition)
-
Frame repairs and restoration
-
Backlog (current backlog is high)
These two chairs met the restoration criteria. Their frames were in fair condition, although one required more work than the other. The wood was dry, but a hand-rubbed oil stain restored the grain and luster of this quality wood. There was just enough hair-on-hide leather to cover both pieces and create an attractive pair.
